I, Too Sing America: The Harlem Renaissance At 100 Is A Celebration Of Creativity And Culture In The Columbus, Ohio Black Arts Community As We Recognize, Reflect On The Revive The Spirit Of The Harlem Renaissance.

The “I Too, Sing America. Harlem Renaissance at 100” celebration officially kicks off this Sunday, March, 18, 2018 at the Shadow Box Live. The Harlem Renaissance represents a special time in America for black people. It is one of the universally heralded periods of history, where black excellence was and continues to be celebrated, honored and revered. Many people are familiar with some of the most iconic images and figures from the time-period. Artists such as Langston Hughes, Duke Ellington, and Zora Neale Hurston are permanently archived in American canon and the weight of their legacies still leaves an impression on our collective psyche.

Milestones matter and with the 100-year anniversary upon us, it is important that we take the time to acknowledge and embrace the history. The volume and impact of the creativity produced back then makes that era notable, but anybody who’s been paying attention can tell you that, for black people, the renaissance never really stopped. That’s what makes “I Too, Sing America. Harlem Renaissance at 100” special. In Columbus this year, we are going to be looking back to the past while also celebrating all of the art CURRENTLY being created.
